Silver Spoon 1) What is your reaction to the text you just read?     I heard about this book from my friend earlier, but this was the first time I actually read it. Also, I didn't know the book is about  Agricultural high school  life. Because of the name 'Silver Spoon', I thought this manga will be something about wealth and maybe about the competition among people who have more and less. But no, it was about peaceful farm life! I think this manga has a very interesting topic. There are not many  Agricultural mangas in this society, especially the funny one like this one. (I'm not sure this is counted as Agricultural manga, but still.) It's not like to react to the story, but now I know some of the knowledge of farm that people couldn't know in normal routes.

I think this manga has a very interesting topic. There are not many  Agricultural mangas in this society,

Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

When I was very young,  Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind was the first animation movie I saw. I remember my mother's friend gave me the whole bunch of Ghibli animation CD and I watch them as I am a kid. It would be a lie if I say I understand the whole films. Actually, I did not understand most of the film's story at that time. Nausicca was cool, but Ohmu was really, really scary for I was a child. And for Mononoke Hime, they cut off the kami's head. Spirited Away has some of the grotesque parts such as parents becoming a gigantic(and realistic) pig, and  Kaonashi eathing horribly. To be honest, It is quite scary for a kid right? However, I really liked them even just for the visual. I closed my eyes when I get too scared. I didn't understand the story at all, but I remember the moment. When Nausicaa, she spins her whistle, the quiet spinning sound makes Ohmu to calms down and she could get them to stop. She made a beautiful garden of her own and find out the pla

I Saw it

I Saw it I saw it is a short comic book that Nakazawa Keiji made, and it describes his own experience of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I am not sure why I am not surprised with the whole imagery of what happened to human's body when an atomic bomb explosion. Maybe it's because the drawings are not pictures, so they don't seem really grotesque, or maybe because I can't imagine the scene at all. It was 1945 when atomic bomb was dropped into Japan and it is really not an ancient time. It is more likely to a recent event according to the whole Japan history and that means, the character's life inside the comics are not dramatically different from our old days. This is a very shocking fact. Because we do listen to our elders, grandparents, and parents about their childhood. And it is the exact time when our grandparents live. So we could simply imagine how would their life was. And then the bomb hit the place. People body have burned alive, skin is mel

Questions

- If you could only present one artwork (books, manga, movie etc) to junior artists as a senior, what will you recommend? - What contents you think is most important to make a story work? - What helped you to become a artist most? watching movies, reading novels, comics, or even traveling or only full of imagination etc.

Ayako

Ayako_Chap1:// Eng This manga contains very sensitive contents and just simply could be described, as insane. I had heard about some crazy Japanese manga before so I thought I could handle those, but maybe I might underestimate how could a story be so insanely mad. Probably this manga will be counted as a top-rated insane one of that kind of manga. The story is really shocking and should never happen in real life. But I saw they could really happen at that time and sometimes these days too. The whole contents of Ayako are actually shown in point Jiro Tenge, son of Sakuemon who is the patriarch of Tenge family, and I thought he could be the one of the 'good guy' as may=ny narrator character become, maybe who could change or finish this crazy family affair. But while reading the book I notice the family cannot be cured or healed. Even Jiro was not a good person too. He kills people and blames his fault on poor mentally disordered women. And there is no way to change Ichiro

What I want to present in seminar.

Is  Was about Shinkai Makoto, the director of 'Your Name' and other famous movies such as '5 Centimeters per Second' ...Or thinking about the Webtoon in the US and how are they coming from Korea or China. But we heard about Shinkai Makoto during the class already! So my final pick will be simply about the Webtoons in the US. Fortunately, I am from Korea and Korea is like the one of the most popular Webtoon producing country and I already saw lots of them are being translated in English and Published here. Webtoon is actually a huge concept, so I am probably not going to tell every detail about them. I will mostly concentrate on how the webtoon cartoonist starts making Comics and the wide types of webtoon in common. I don't want to get lost with too much information so I am planning to just simply introducing some of the webtoons and major types how people choose in a range of age, gender, and their interests. I wish to present this after Week Ten Ma
